01

Mission

The Fulbright Vietnamese Student Program "provides fully-funded scholarships for individuals to study for Master's degrees in the United States". It is run through the U.S. Mission in Vietnam, and Science and Technology applications are especially encouraged.

02

What you get

The grant covers full tuition and fees, a living stipend, round-trip travel between Vietnam and the United States, and health and accident insurance. The stipend amount is not published on the programme pages.

03

Who can apply

You must be a Vietnamese citizen who lives in Vietnam throughout the process and holds no dual citizenship. You need at least one undergraduate degree and at least two years of work experience, counted from the date your first bachelor's degree was issued up to the application deadline. English must be at least TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 110 or TOEFL Essentials 8.5. There is no minimum GPA and no quota per field. All fields are eligible except medicine, dentistry and nursing, while public health and allied subjects without clinical practice are eligible. Engineering and physical sciences applicants need an undergraduate field that relates to the master's field.

You are not eligible if you live or study abroad now, earned a US bachelor's or master's degree in the last three years, received a fully funded graduate scholarship abroad in the last five years, or already received a Fulbright Student Program grant.

04

What they look for

About 45 to 50 applicants are interviewed each year, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Selection is based on academic and professional merit: clear study objectives, work experience in your field, leadership potential, dedication to Vietnam, cultural exchange potential, and academic excellence with strong English. Preference goes to candidates without recent or substantial experience living, studying or working in the United States.

05

The fine print

All Fulbright grantees are subject to a two-year home-country residency requirement. Most master's programmes take two years, though some run 10 to 12 months. Candidates for a master's in Law need a bachelor's in Law, and MBA applicants take the GMAT instead of the GRE. Awards must comply with applicable US federal regulations, including relevant White House Executive Orders.
